I'm a Witch

by Kate Richards

By now most of my friends and readers know it – I’m a witch. Which makes Samhain a very important part of the year. In Demons Love Cinnamon, released today at Breathless Press, I tried to show how I think it’s fun to celebrate the holiday. Part Samhain—a time I think about the past year and the next, and part huge party with everyone whose company I enjoy.

Our parties rock the hill on which we live, and according to my guests we have lots of ghostly visitors passing through. Although most of them are family, and are there most of the time anyway, I’m hoping whoever that Victorian couple was that my friend Steve saw a couple of years ago will make another appearance. I’m dying to know who they are!

We have a huge feast and make such amazing treats as popcorn cooked in a big pot on the stove…which most of the kids have never seen, and a plethora of cocktails made with the blood vodka we keep on hand for the occasion. The coffin table takes center stage… sometimes as a serving table, but usually as a place for someone to lurk in and jump out. And I don’t know if we’re weird, but old zombie movies are a big favorite and we drag out our old DVD of Reefer Madness, which is hilariously funny if you turn the sound down and do your own soundtrack. Well, we think it’s funny anyway!

There are generally a few witches and druids in the crowd. But mostly it’s neighbors, family and friends, eating, drinking, and having fun.
Here is a recipe from author and friend Stephanie Beck:

Cinnamon Cider
1 C apple cider (warmed)
1 shot cinnamon liqueur (like schnapps)
1 cinnamon stick

If you get a chance, come by my blog at http://katerichards.wordpress.com. I’m having a Demon’s Love Cinnamon recipe contest. I have extended it through Halloween and will announce the winners on November 1, one for eats and one for drinks. Enter the contest or just pick up something to enjoy for your own Halloween. Hint: extra credit if there’s cinnamon somewhere in the mix.

Happy Halloween and a Blessed Samhain
Kate
